Marmalade + Kindness, Founder, Adamantia Velonis shares the poem that started it all. The poem is inspired by English gardens, the quiet life, the streets of Athens, ageing and love.
Because
I imagine being very old,
in a lush green garden
with the sun on my face,
pouring a hot cup of tea
on the patio.
I gently spread
the cold butter on the bread
and watch it melt,
saturating the bread
with its fatty goodness.
The jam is sweet but tart,
and the crumbs from the first bite
bounce off the plate
and land on my lap.
I think
about the orange tree-lined
streets of Athens.
The ripe fruit
gathered together on the ground,
the branches no longer able
to sustain their weight.
The oranges are bright and pure,
like the golden sunlight
that has nurtured them
to grow.
Like the sun on my face,
bearing witness
to all the details
of our days.
