This week M+K sits across the table with Jules Pearson, Co-Founder of London on the Inside (LOTI). LOTI is London’s largest independent lifestyle publication, on a mission to unlock the hidden gems of London and connect people to local and global brands, discoveries and experiences. She talks with us about cooking, creativity and community.
1. My cooking inspiration…
My sister. She’s always trying new recipes and experimenting, plus she makes my favourite food whenever I go around and knows that you ALWAYS need Yorkshire puddings on a Sunday roast.
2. A meal that reminds me of home…
Sunday roast with pork, lots of crackling, all the trimmings – and I mean carrots, broccoli, cabbage, mash potato, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and LOTS and LOTS of gravy.
3. A life lesson cooking has taught me…
Cutting corners means the end result is never as good. Also, excess might seem like a good idea and provide a short high but in the long run, all those naughty extras are going to catch up with you.
4. When I want to be creative I…
Escape the city for a while – I am most creative when exploring new places and cultures, I get excited by experiencing things outside of my normal day to day.
5. The most transformational book I’ve read is…
I am currently reading Walden by Henry David Thoreau, which I’m hoping will teach me how to be at one with nature (fingers crossed!)
6. The routines that keep me grounded are…
My cycling commute to work and back – it gives me some headspace away from my phone and helps lift my mood if I have had a so-so day.
7. I recently learnt…
The value of myself.
8. Favourite random act of kindness…
Just offering a hand to people you can see are struggling – whether that’s helping someone with a bag up the tube stairs or with directions. I love those small touches.
9. To make a difference in my community I…
Support local businesses, even if that means spending a bit more as it’s important to keep these businesses alive.
10. Right now, I’m grateful for…
My health – there’s so much on the news about COVID-19 that I feel incredibly lucky to have not been affected.
