This week M+K sits across the table with Isabella West, Founder and CEO, Hirestreet, a fashion rental platform committed to making style and sustainability accessible for all women. She talks with us about creativity, what she has learnt over the pandemic and her passion for sustainability.

1. My cooking inspiration…

Is my sister! She is an absolutely amazing chef, she spends so much time planning the perfect meals, carefully considering every guest who is coming and adding something special and thoughtful for them, plus she always makes everything look beautiful.

2. A meal that reminds me of home…

Is my mum’s Sunday roast. I come from a big family, and it just feels like the right way to start the week having everyone around the table together.

3. A life lesson cooking has taught me…

Is the importance of outsourcing! I am absolutely terrible in the kitchen, but there are plenty of things I can do around the house. I think it’s all about playing to your relative household strengths!

4. When I want to be creative I…

Go on a run! I honestly find running is so good for my mental health, it helps me relax and clear my mind of all the small day to day tasks that often prevent me from being creative.

5. The most transformational book I’ve read is…

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. There is a reason this book has really stood the test of time! The concepts are basic, but it is very powerful. I now subscribe to an app called Blinkist which is amazing, I read summaries of books so I can understand the key ideas and decide whether to read more!

6. The routines that keep me grounded are…

Waking up, having my morning coffee and going for a run.

7. I recently learnt…

The importance of self-care. I used to live life at a million miles an hour, spending far too long either in the office, commuting or out with friends. Lockdown has forced us all to slow down, and for me, I will definitely.

8. Favourite random act of kindness…

Is just staying incredibly positive. I really believe in the power of positive thinking and I see the impact that has on the people I interact with. If each of those people goes on to feel a bit more positive about their day, then positivity spreads to through their interactions too and I think that is a huge win.

9. To make a difference in my community I…

I promote confidence without compromise. We run Hirestreet as a community of renters, sharing images, reviews and feedback on every dress on the site so the next person who wears it gets the perfect experience. We want to empower our customers to get that amazing confident feeling that comes with having a dress you love, for 15% of the retail price without having to worry about their environmental impact!

10. Right now, I’m grateful for…

My family and friends.
